Campaign Spotlight: Propel Manila Reimagines Our Favorite Classics With Pride!
by: Propel Manila
This year, Pride Goes LIT! With Reimagined Rainbow Stories based on our most favorite classics.
With centuries of stories and books, barely any of it has represented LGBTQ+. So Pride@Tech, together with Google, Facebook, IBM, Globe, with creative digital agency Propel Manila, want to change that and make LGBTQ+ stories known. Introducing RETOLD WITH PRIDE. Retelling classic iconic stories, this time with Pride.
Stories like Pride and No Prejudice, Dragula, The Gay Gatsby, Life of Bi, Little Women Loving Women, including local classics like Ibong Adana, Florante at Awra, Si Malakas at si Makisig have been given LGBTQ+ representation, covering themes of love, sex, dating, coming out, and acceptance. These stories will be fully heard at the live reading on June 26, 7PM at the Pride@Tech Facebook page. Featuring LGBTQ+ artists, educators, activists like Leeroy New, Mela Habijan Queenmelo Esguerra, Macoydubs, Anthony Falcon, and other LGBTQ+ creators and poets like Joti Tabula and Redge Tolentino.
“As storytellers and creators, we aim to give the right and enough representation to the LGBTQIA+ community. Because representation matters. Representation creates perception. Perception shapes culture, and ultimately, shapes our reality. And we know how powerful stories can be,” says Propel Manila Chief Creative, Raymund Sison. “Our mission at Propel Manila is to always look for ways to create ideas that matter and we’re honored to tell these stories with such great icons.”
“The truth is most of us grew up with little or close-to-none references and representation to how we identify with. We wanted to change this and we wanted to make our stories known,” says Propel Manila Chief Executive JC Valenzuela. “We’ve still got a lot more stories coming, so we’re excited to roll this out! Not just during Pride Month, but even after Pride!”
